Got Dental Benefits? Get Ready for the New Year

Posted by Alabama Family Dentistry in Preventive Dental Care 30 Nov 2015

Use your dental benefits before they expire | Alabama Family DentistryAs 2015 is quickly drawing to a close, it’s a good time to think about your dental benefits. If you are due for a dental exam or cleaning, you should check to see if you have benefits remaining for the year. We recommend dental exams and cleanings twice a year for optimum oral health, and most dental plans cover these services.

Familiarizing yourself with your dental benefits plan can also help you to find ways to save money on other services. While some cosmetic services like teeth whitening or veneers may not be covered, many services that are often considered to be cosmetic may be covered due to the dental health improvements they provide. At Alabama Family Dentistry we offer many cosmetic treatments that also serve to repair, restore or strengthen your teeth and gums. Some of these services include dental crowns, fillings, bridges, dentures and implants. Dental insurance usually covers services that are deemed necessary for good oral health. Don’t assume that “cosmetic” services are not covered until checking with your benefits provider. Most dental health procedures offer cosmetic improvements too.

You may find that some services like dental implants are not covered, but dentures or bridges are. Your benefits can help you to decide on services when costs are a factor in your decision. At Alabama Family Dentistry, we will work with you to help you find the most effective and affordable treatment options.

Twice annual exams and cleanings can catch early signs of gum disease or other problems. Everyone is susceptible to gum disease, even those people who take good care of their teeth at home. Preventative care is essential to avoiding problems before they become complicated and difficult to correct. Coming into our office every six months for a routine exam and cleaning can help you avoid more visits and corrective procedures. If your benefits plan covers two exams a year, make sure you don’t let the year run out without taking advantage of these opportunities to keep your teeth and gums healthy.

Call Alabama Family Dentistry at any of our four locations in the Birmingham area to set up an appointment for an exam, cleaning or a consultation. Make sure your ready for 2016 with a beautiful and healthy smile.
