New Year! New Teeth!

Posted by Alabama Family Dentistry in Cosmetic Dentistry, Dental Tips 16 Jan 2017

Make a New Year’s resolution to achieve the beautiful smile you’ve always wanted. This can be the year that you have your teeth repaired, restored, or brightened to enhance your appearance.

Fix Chipped or Broken Teeth

Perhaps part of your tooth’s enamel has chipped off. This wouldn’t be so bad if it were a back tooth. But if you’ve chipped a front tooth that can be readily seen while you’re speaking, your best option is to have your dentist use a bonding procedure to make the repair.

A tooth-colored composite resin is adhered to the chipped surface of your tooth. It is then formed to fit in with the shape of your adjoining teeth and hardened using ultraviolet light. Bonding is a relatively easy procedure that can last for years.

A tooth that has broken can be restored with a crown. At Alabama Family Dentistry we tend to use porcelain fused to metal crowns to restore teeth that affect your appearance, as these materials can be designed to match the natural shade of your teeth. It usually takes just two visits to fit you for a crown, done under anesthesia and without pain. One visit is to take an impression of the tooth base and fit on a temporary crown. A second appointment is the seating of the crown, adjusting it, cementing and polishing. You will then still have your original tooth material, but a permanent crown over it will look and perform better than ever.

Are You Missing Teeth?

If you’re missing a tooth, or even more than one tooth, dental implants can be a fantastic alternative to dentures or bridges. In fact, implants are nearly as functional, long-lasting and natural-looking as a real tooth! While dentures can slip when you move your mouth around, dental implants stay put without shifting or clicking. They are there to last, protect against jawbone deterioration, and help retain your natural facial structure and smile. Speak with the dentists at Alabama Family Dentistry for more information about implants that can last for many years.

Teeth Whitening

If your teeth are discolored or stained from eating or drinking certain foods and beverages, it’s time you greeted this new year with a gleaming set of pearly whites to show off your smile. Alabama Family Dentistry professionals at the Acton Road and Gardendale offices can whiten your teeth an average of eight shades in under an hour using the ZOOM! whitening procedure. Your teeth, and only your teeth, are coated with a gel, then exposed to a specialized light to break up stains and discolorations.

Another whitening option that yields dramatic results and is available at all Alabama Family Dentistry offices is a home bleaching whitening kit using custom-fitted mouth trays and a whitening gel. Molds of your upper and lower teeth are taken and a tray is custom made to exactly fit onto your teeth. The gel is then placed in the trays and worn for periods of time as directed by your dentist.

Make this the year that you take care of your teeth and dazzle yourself with a renewed appearance. Keep in mind that Alabama Family Dentistry accepts Care Credit, allowing you to finance your procedures over time.
